  • All Mississippi Territorial Waters Open to Commercial & Recreational Fishing – All Mississippi territorial waters – including those south of the barrier islands – are open for commercial and recreational fishing.
  • All Mississippi Gulf Coast Beaches Open – All 62 miles of beach (Hancock, Harrison and Jackson Counties) on the Mississippi Gulf Coast are now open.

Has the gulf situation closed all the beaches?
No. There are 62 miles of sand beach along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Areas to avoid will be clearly marked. Remind visitors to heed sign and to use common sense.

Is the seafood safe?
Wild-caught Gulf seafood is safe. It's available at seafood markets along the Coast and, of course, at our restaurants.

Can I go fishing?
Yes. The Mississippi Sound and offshore islands are open for commercial and recreational fishing. Charter boat operators know where the big ones are biting and are ready to take you fishing. Check with the Department of Marine Resources (DMR) at www.dmr.state.ms.us anytime to find out what Mississippi waters are open to fish.
